Right now my thoughts are on your personal safety, that eaton fire looks dangerously close to your peaceful community in Altadena, I am sure you got your mojodojo safely out of the area, stay safe out there.
Unfortunately, John, my immediate surroundings burned to the ground, with the exception of one house, magically spared. I now own only what I could throw into the van as the evacuation orders came in. A beautiful peaceful neighborhood wiped out. Helluva thing.
Man, our world is a complicated little maelstrom of independent thoughts and actions, isn't it?
Thank you for your writings, Dave. Please don't stop publishing them here, even though this platform seems so oddly disjointed and (tbh) not very well thought out.
Sorry, ~400 miles north so can't join ya'll. Anyway, the skill of listening, not hearing, has been lost lately because of so many people just thrusting their opinions onto others and basically walking away. You thoughts place that problem with us all, or at least many of us. Good article, Dave, thanks!
Re Dylan: I live in Minnesota. Hibbing is a wonderful, small town in the state's Iron Range, which has gone through hard times when the iron mines closed for awhile. I have no idea how it would feel to be Jewish in a land of Finns, Irish, Poles and Swedes. It may have delayed, but did not deter, his awakening to the Civil Rights movement.
Re Israel: The Muslim 'grooming' (i.e. rape) gangs of England are now stirring up so much kerfuffle that England's PM is addressing the issue by smearing the messengers. This isn't an England issue alone. It's a European issue. I believe it HASN'T become an issue here in America, yet, because we offer genuine opportunity for Muslim refugees who come here. The vast majority have too much to lose to join anti-Western hate groups. But they do exist. However, our FBI allocates their scarce resources which have alternative uses (see hwo I Sowelled there) to focus on Catholics and problematic Christians. Before I criticize Israel, I have to ask: "why haven't surrounding Arab and majority Muslim countries taken in Palestinians?" The answer: those that they have taken in have proven unruly and ungovernable. Recently, Palestinians who have been accepted into Malaysia for medical attention rioted at the hospital. Resources funneled to the Palestinians for aid and economic development get re-directed to make tunnels into Israel. These aren't actions of a people that want peace. As Israel makes peace with Saudi Arabia, and other Arab countries through the Abraham accords, even the 'Arab street' will grow tired of Palestinians' self-characterization of victimization.
So good. My mother read it and said "absolutely lovely." She wants a flyer...
Is Rabbi Josh invited to the concert this Saturday? Would love to meet him!
He's invited, but he has a brand new puppy, and so probably won't be there.
Hope you are safe from all the fires.

Glad you are safe, I take it you lost your mojodojo, that sucks losing your home.
