I must remind you, Dave, that Valentine's Day has been skewered into a modern marketing perversion of its original intent. Unless I am deluding myself, Valentines Day back in the world I grew up in, was a day on which to _secretly_ divulge your admiration for a person with whom you wished to be romantically involved.
"Be my Valentine" appears to have been brushed off the shelf and swept into the same place where other non-profitable endeavours now reside. Our memories.
Many of us seasoned by a few decades of life know exactly of what you write, partly because you write so well, but also because Cupid's slings and arrows are so recognizable in the pain and poignancy they cause. This Valentine's Day perhaps we can give ourselves solace knowing that for a time, often more than a few times, love hurt so good.
Thanks Dave, you made me think - again. We all (hopefully?) remember the one that got away. I wonder if she even knows that she was/is "the one?" Guess I'd rather not think about it since I have a wonderful life right now and would not trade it away.
Well said, Mr. Dave! I'm on my 3rd marriage and I am certain I got it right this time. Not perfect, mind you. But right. I thank God for Diane. I married up,as they say! God is so amazingly good!
I still experience recurring issues with "old me" and then I have to smooth things over with my wife. Fortunately not the issues that killed the two previous "lifelong relationships." As always, I enjoy your perspective and the way you put it into words! Happy February, Dave! I apologize for the length. 🤓👍💯
Thanks Dave. We appreciate your thoughts and taking this journey (as much as we can) with you. I have a feeling that the normal holidays on the calendar in the LA area will be muted this year. Maybe we will find solace in new ways, like celebrating spring blooms and the return of migrating birds to our yards. Summer stone fruit and watermelons are still scheduled for summer last I heard, sort of like the treasured predictability of the chorus of a great folk song.

Great read. I’ve missed your thoughts .
Thank you - helps me spin my own reality into a better view.

Great read. Appreciate your thoughts as always and the time you spend to do so.

Love of community, love of friends, love of words spoken and sung.
Sounds like you might have a true love, just not in the Halmark and hearts form that is celebrated on the 14th of February.
My dad was married 4 times, sounds like you might have become self aware faster than him.
You express yourself so well. Thank you for another great, and poignant, read.
Happy Valentine’s Day!🍫

I like it. And I admire your touch with language. Very well said.
Happy valentines Dave
